Sounded too good to be true so I tested it out against Linux's built-in qsort(). AQS runs faster when there are many repeats in the array. Like when the same number shows up many times. When there aren't, it runs worse than qsort().

AQS seems to beat qsort when each element is reused about 2000 times or more. If each element unique, AQS is about twice as slow at qsort.

AQS degenerates to insertion sort when the input gets small. I don't know what qsort does in that case.

Intuitively, I would try a 3-pivot sort and see if it doesn't do just as well as AQS. Nonetheless, the automatic evolution by Critticall is impressive.

"COBOL is for wimpy application programmers".

Although 'COBOL is dead' looking at the job opportunities available.

COBOL is not just a language for creating applications at a higher level. The fact is its mainly still used for back end work these days.

But the days are numbered for COBOL as you cant keep adding patches and enhancements to get something to work with the new. Technology advances for the better and compilers are getting smarter. Speculative execution is not something that I have seen in a COBOL compiler.

Anyway the point is that many misconceptions are out there about COBOL. Even universities are teaching it :-), although companies are not actually in great demand for it - if COBOL was in demand then in London there would be more than 8 jobs posted on cwjobs.

Don't take the modules at university which teach COBOL - there is no point. The language constructs are different to others and skills are not generally transferable. For example a for loop construct is the same for Java C C# C++ but COBOL is different. COBOL has global variables other languages in demand don't. There are so many differences.

Its good to regularly check for fragmentation because if its allowed to spread,it can take hours to cure.That looks badly fragmented. My PC started freezing when i tried to open programs. Have learnt that prevention is better than cure.
